Dental Veneers in Dacula

Veneers

If you’re looking to improve the aesthetics of your teeth, veneers might be just the solution you’re looking for.

Dacula GA Porcelain Veneers

Sometimes, there’s nothing technically “wrong” with your teeth from a medical perspective, but you’re just not happy with the way they look. They aren’t decaying or infected, but they’re stained, cracked, crooked, or inconsistent in size and shape – or maybe all of the above.

In these cases, it doesn’t make any sense to have crowns placed or the teeth pulled and replaced with implants or dentures. After all, they work just fine and it’s always ideal to keep your natural teeth if they are healthy. Nevertheless, we all know how great a nice set of teeth can look, and many of us aspire to have straight, perfectly white teeth that help improve our appearance and self-confidence. That’s where veneers come in.

Veneers are a thin, very strong layer of porcelain that are permanently bonded to teeth to improve their appearance. They can give you that gorgeous, white smile in a relatively quick and easy process. Even better, they’re extremely durable and generally work well with any other dental work you’ve had done.

If you’re curious about the possibility of getting veneers, don’t hesitate to get in touch! W provide dental veneers in Dacula, Georgia, and we’d be more than happy to review your situation, give you a quote, and help you get that confident smile you’ve always dreamed of.

What It’s Like to Get a Veneer

Getting a veneer placed is a simple, noninvasive procedure that it usually comprised of a couple of visits to our offices.

First, you’ll come in to have a small amount of enamel removed from your teeth to make room for the veneers. Because veneers are so thin, this will be very minimal. Then, we take a mold of your teeth to create veneers that fit your mouth perfectly.

After the mold is taken, we’ll set you up with a set of temporary veneers while we have your permanent veneers made at a lab. We’ll also make sure that the color of the permanent veneers is the shade you are looking for, and if we need to whiten the teeth around the veneers that can be discussed as well.

Once your permanent veneers are made, we’ll have you come in for a second appointment where we will use a dental adhesive to create a permanent bond between the veneers and your teeth.

When all is said and done, you won’t be able to tell the difference between the veneers and your teeth, and they function just like natural teeth. You also clean them in the same way you do natural teeth, so you don’t have to worry about any ongoing headache to keep them clean and white.

Veneers tend to last for many, many years, as well – for most patients, they last decades. Hence, if your teeth are healthy and strong but you’re just not happy with how they look, reach out to discuss getting  veneers today and we’ll give you a full rundown on the process and if your situation is a good fit for veneers, as well as an estimate for how much they will cost.

The Veneers Process

After you’ve been approved for veneers by Dr. Josh Haycock at Auburn Hills Family Dentistry, it takes two appointments over a period of about 2-3 weeks to get a set of porcelain veneers. First, your teeth will need to be prepared for veneers.

To prepare your teeth for veneers, about 0.5mm of enamel must be removed from each tooth that is getting a veneer. Removing this enamel exposes fresh enamel to ensure a tight hold for each veneer, and also ensures that the additional veneer material does not negatively affect your bite.

Dr. Haycock will begin the preparation process by cleaning and numbing your mouth. You can also be sedated during this appointment, if desired. Then, Dr. Haycock will use a dental drill to remove enamel from each of your teeth, preparing them for the veneers. Once each tooth has been prepared, he will use dental trays and putty to take impressions and molds of your teeth.

These will be sent to an outside dental lab where your veneers will be built. This will take about 2-3 weeks, so Dr. Haycock will attach a set of temporary resin veneers to your teeth to protect your smile until your next appointment.

Once the dental lab has built your veneers and they have been sent to our office, you’ll come in for your second and final appointment. Dr. Josh Haycock will check the fit of each veneer, then bond them into place permanently using powerful dental cement. Then, your new smile will be polished and buffed, and you’ll be sent home.

Aftercare For Veneers

Veneers do not require any special aftercare once they’ve been placed. You can treat them just like your natural teeth by brushing twice a day for two minutes and flossing once a day. You should also see Dr. Haycock for a teeth cleaning every six months.

Beyond this, there are a few habits you can avoid to ensure your veneers last a long time. First, avoid chewing very hard foods like popcorn kernels or almonds with your veneers, and use your molars instead. This helps prevent premature breakage or dislodging of your veneers.

Additionally, you should never chew non-food objects like fingernails, pens, or pencils with your veneers, as this can cause premature damage to them. Using your teeth as tools to do things like open up plastic bags or rip tape should also be avoided for the same reason.

Are Veneers Permanent?

Yes. Veneers are permanent, and the treatment cannot be reversed once your teeth have been trimmed to accommodate veneers. If you plan to get veneers, you should be aware that you cannot have them removed. If your veneers break or wear down with time, you’ll need to have them replaced in the future to keep your smile healthy.

If you are not comfortable with this, an alternative treatment such as dental bonding may be a good option for you. Teeth treated with dental bonding are not quite as durable as veneers, but the process does not require any enamel removal, and is reversible.
