Dental Cleaning in Dacula, Georgia

Prophylactic Cleaning

Having a dental cleaning in Dacula by a registered dental hygienist or dentist periodically is extremely important in maintaining a healthy oral cavity and preventing gingivitis and periodontitis. The hygienist will use manual instrumentation as well as an ultrasonic device to remove the built-up plaque and calculus. Once this is finished your teeth will be polished removing stains, cleaning the surface of the teeth, and leaving your mouth feeling fresh and clean. During prophylactic cleaning appointments, it is also good to have a fluoride treatment. Most insurances cover this for children but it is also a good idea for adults to have fluoride treatments as well. Fluoride strengthens teeth to be more resistant to tooth decay.

Exam

Along with your prophylactic cleaning a comprehensive exam will be completed by the dentist. This will include a series of diagnostic radiographs. Having a cleaning and exam twice a year is paramount to a healthy mouth and cavity prevention. Early detection of decay as well as more serious problems makes treatment easier, less expensive, and more successful. In the comprehensive exam the dentist will:

Analyze X-rays, which may reveal decay, bone loss, abscesses, tumors, cysts, and other problems. Check the gums and bone around the teeth for any signs of periodontal disease. Check the face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, tissues, and gums for any signs of oral cancer. Check all tooth surfaces for decay with special dental instruments.

Check current fillings, crowns, and other existing dental work. To ensure your oral cavity is as healthy as possible.

Home Care

After every time we eat and/or drink plaque begins to build upon our teeth. Plaque is a sticky, almost invisible film that forms on the teeth.  It is a growing colony of living bacteria, food debris, and saliva. The bacteria produce toxins that inflame the gums and erode enamel which leads to tooth decay. If this plaque film is not removed efficiently it will harden and become calculus (tartar) that can not be removed by brushing and flossing, it can only be removed by the special tools a dental hygienist is trained to use.
